Not your typical anatomy class! During this fun and energetic module, participants will actively build upon their foundational understanding of structural and functional anatomy, as it applies to asana. Through this experiential exploration of the body, we will begin with a quick review of basic anatomy and then continue building our understanding of anatomical function, body movement, and how that is expressed during asana. At the end of this module, participants will have an increased understanding of anatomical terminology and how the skeletal and muscular systems work together during asana. This module will also prepare participants with the ability to observe other people’s anatomy and gain information that can then be fed back into their practice. Advanced Anatomy and Physiology for the Yoga Professional Part 2

Part 2 of Advanced Anatomy and Physiology for the Yoga Professional. During this interactive module, we will begin “layering” our anatomical knowledge and applying it to the functions of the human body. This module will provide a fuller view of the human body as we explore some of the processes that happen within it. Levels of organization from cellular to tissues, organs and organ systems will be covered, in addition to the integration of systems and how they function together in harmony or in some instances, disharmony. Primary focus will be on the respiratory, circulatory, endocrine and nervous systems. With this physiological understanding of the body, participants will have a better understanding of ways yoga can be helpful, and why in some instances certain asanas may be contraindicated. Teaching Techniques of Asana: Advanced Alignment, Refinement & Demonstration
The yoga student of today is often balancing many tasks, working extended hours, dealing with minimal and/or repetitive movements, eating on the run, stressed and fatigued. They often seek yoga for balance, but often present with malalignment and imbalances. During this module, participants will combine their knowledge of yoga with their knowledge in anatomy and physiology building further understanding of how to safely and effectively work with the yoga student of today. In addition to actively gaining a kinesthetic feel for what’s happening in your student’s body, participants will also practice training their eyes in recognizing patterns, confidently explore safest asanas that may be best suited in working toward refining and aligning, and how to determine when it may be best to not work with a malalignment and/or imbalance. 17 YOGA ALLIANCE APPROVED CEUs

Observations, Modifications, & Assists
From alignment, refinement and demonstration, participants will heighten their experiential teaching skills by stepping into the development of observation, modifications and assists. Facilitating an individual’s progression through a series of asanas is an important facet of being a teacher. In addition to facilitation, observation and intuitive teaching skills are also important facets to being a teacher. Observing students as they move through asana, having the ability to mimic patterns that we see in our students and gain a more kinesthetic feel for what is going on in that person’s body allows us as teachers, to make more intelligent decisions. These decisions lead to determining how and when to intervene into a student’s practice through a variety of verbal, energetic and/or physical adjustments and assists. There is no intention to teach a set adjustment for any one pose, instead we’ll focus on further developing the before mentioned principles that underlie all good adjustments and assists. 17 YOGA ALLIANCE APPROVED CEUs

Energy Anatomy and the Subtle Body: Exploring Chakras, Vayus and Koshas
Typically, there is a lot of focus on the physical form of yoga, asana. This workshop will take things deeper, delving into the energetic parts of our being, the subtle body. Starting with the seven Chakras, or energy centers. The Chakras are located along the spine. Each Chakra is a whirling disk of light, radiating colors and spiritual qualities that are associated with corresponding psychological, physical and emotional states of a whole being. Next, we’ll examine the energy of prana and how it is subdivided into five components called Vayus or winds, each holding specific functions and directions of flow. By cultivating a basic awareness of the Vayus we will deepen our awareness of the body and breath, leading to the enrichment of one’s being. From Vayus we will move into the Koshas or five selves. The Koshas are considered to be the five sheaths or coverings that veil the light of the True Self. We will look into how yoga can help to peel these layers back and move us closer to our innermost core, where we can attain true absorption in to the oneness of our True Self. with the universe.

Pranayama, mudras and meditation are typically practiced individually. We will start this module by reviewing the key concepts, practices and benefits of these individual practices, followed by discussion, exploration and experimentation of combining all three! Teaching private yoga seems like a great option, but many questions often come with the idea, “Am I experienced enough, how do I get private clients, how much do I charge, where do I provide private yoga sessions and how do I work with limitations or medical conditions?” There are differences between teaching yoga classes and private yoga sessions. Private yoga sessions are beneficial for private clients and private yoga teachers alike. The tough ethics scenarios that you may have run into since beginning your teaching career will also be tackled in a forum based style to allow for the sharing of situations and solutions that allow peers to gain knowledge and insight from each others' experiences. Effectively Using the Principles of Yoga within your profession
When people think of yoga, they often think about the physical benefits of the practice, increased flexibility and relaxed muscles. Typically, not much focus is placed on the mental, cognitive and psychological benefits of yoga. During this introductory workshop, we’ll discuss studies that have assessed the effectiveness of yoga for one’s mental health. We will also discuss some of the contraindications associated with certain mental health conditions. Topics covered will include anxiety, depression, memory, concentration and PTSD.
As yoga practitioners and professionals, it is important to have a foundational understanding of anatomy, physiology and its terminology. Having this knowledge will better prepare participants for professional collaboration and work with other wellness and medical professionals.

We will look at how this practice, with its ancient yogic roots, can affect our physical, energetic and emotional bodies. Through this understanding we will explore ways to lead a Yin class, and to incorporate Yin postures and philosophy into any practice.The greatest emphasis in the training is placed on the experience of the practice itself. Time will also be spent in discussion of anatomy and philosophy, and as a community we’ll examine the postures and how they can affect us all differently as individuals. The training is suitable for teachers and dedicated practitioners. You don’t need to be a teacher or even experienced in Yin, just come with an open heart and a willing mind.
